A loop from Cayey through the mountains and down to the Caribbean. The PR-184, the famous Ruta del Lechón, passes the roast-pork restaurants of Guavate and crosses Carite forest to Patillas; the PR-3 follows the coast to Guayama, and the winding PR-15, lined with pink-flowering robles in spring, climbs back to Cayey.

Tips

  • Guavate is at its liveliest, and most crowded, on weekend afternoons, with music and queues.
  • The PR-184 through Carite is narrow and winding; take it slowly, especially in fog or rain.
